DETAILED ITINERARY

included MEALS: welcome drink and mezze

We pick you up from the airport and get you to your hotel. After you’ve checked into your accommodation, you have time to freshen up and take a first walk around the old town before we meet for a welcome drink in the evening. This will be a great opportunity to get to know each other and get in the mood for the week ahead.

INCLUDED MEALS: BREAKFAST, BOSNIAN COFFEE & FOOD TASTING

You meet in the morning to explore Sarajevo—see it, feel it, hear it and taste it on this gourmet city tour with Numa and Kathi. In three to four hours, you:

  • discover why Sarajevo is also known as the ‘meeting place of cultures’
  • try a special kind of baklava that you won’t find anywhere outside of Bosnia or even Sarajevo
  • stroll through the Ottoman old town, with its bazaar, inns, and mosques
  • take a walk through the Austro-Hungarian part of the city
  • meet a fourth-generation coppersmith who keeps this ancient craft alive in Sarajevo
  • learn how to drink Bosnian coffee and why coffee culture is so important to us
  • sample the delicious local cheese and meat at the local market

In the afternoon, you have some free time to explore the local mountain, Trebević, visit some museums, or just sit back and soak up the atmosphere of the old town. And don’t miss the sunset from the Yellow Bastion – it’s an amazing sight!

INCLUDED MEALS: BREAKFAST, LUNCH, DINNER

Today you get to know Sarajevo from a different perspective: On an urban hike — a walk through the mahalas, the old Ottoman neighbourhoods.

You see an old synagogue, small mosques with wooden minarets, an old dervish monastery and a Catholic boarding school as you hike up the hill to end up at a secret viewpoint with your city guide. From there, we enjoy the view of the city and then have lunch together.

Afterwards, it’s time to check out and drive around 2 hours to Sutjeska National Park, where the most beautiful, unspoilt nature in Bosnia and Herzegovina awaits us. After dinner together, it’s off to bed to be fit for the hike the next day.

INCLUDED MEALS: BREAKFAST, LUNCH, DINNER

Have you ever crossed a national border on foot? We thought so – but today is the day! We lace up our hiking boots for a 12-kilometre hike that takes us from Sutjeska National Park via a scenic route to Piva National Park in Montenegro all the way to Lake Trnovačko.

All along the way, we are surrounded by the towering mountain massif of Maglić, the highest mountain in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We cross mountain meadows and end at Lake Trnovačko – an oasis of peace — and the term is no cliché for this place! If you’re brave enough: pack your swimsuit and jump into the lake!

We enjoy lunch there before heading back to our starting point, where we’ll hopefully arrive in time for sunset — a breathtaking sight when the Maglić glows in orange, yellow, and purple! After an eventful day, we enjoy dinner together at our accommodation.

INCLUDED MEALS: BREAKFAST

Today we leave the Sutjeska National Park behind us and make our way to Mostar—the pearl of Herzegovina. In the small town of Stolac, we have a lunch break in the romantic Old Mill restaurant to savour the famous Herzegovinian trout (don’t worry: there are other options).

In the late afternoon, we arrive in Mostar, where after check-in you have time for a walk through the UNESCO-protected old town and across the famous Stari Most. The evening is at leisure.

INCLUDED MEALS: BREAKFAST, WINE TASTING, DINNER

Today’s motto? Waterfalls and wine glasses!  The day is reserved for some of the most beautiful sights in the Herzegovina region:

  • Climb the viewpoint over the impressive Ottoman village of Počitelj
  • Marvel at the beauty of nature along the Bunski Canal
  • Visit the most photographed sight in Herzegovina: the dervish monastery in Blagaj
  • Swim in the gorgeous Kravica Waterfalls

And because sightseeing makes you hungry and thirsty, we have prepared a lunch stop at a local boutique winery, which not only serves delicious cheese and ham from the region, but also the only Bosnian brut made from local grapes!

In the evening, a special highlight awaits us: we visit a fourth-generation boutique winery, where we enjoy a barbecue dinner and mix our own wine, bottle it, cork it and write our names on the label to take home as the perfect souvenir!

INCLUDED MEAL: BREAKFAST

Today we have organized a late check-out for you so that you can take another stroll through Mostar in the morning. At noon, we set off on the return journey to Sarajevo — not without stopping off in Jablanica. Here we have lunch and those who want can savour the lamb on a spit for which the region is famous.

We arrive in Sarajevo in the afternoon, where you can spend the afternoon shopping for souvenirs, visiting museums or simply relaxing.

INCLUDED MEALS: BREAKFAST, DINNER

You end your trip with a special local experience in Sarajevo: an ajvar cooking class with Numa’s mum. In case you haven’t heard of the famous spread that is eaten and loved all over the Balkans: Ajvar is a paste made from peppers and aubergines, which is cooked until it is smooth and creamy. Absolutely delicious! And of course you can take a small jar home with you and introduce others to the magical spread.

Right after the cooking, we stay in Numa’s parent’s garden and prepare our farewell dinner—a traditional sač, the barbecue under the bell.

If you still have energy after and want to party your last night away, join us at the Sarajevo Brewery for a final farewell drink.

INCLUDED MEAL: BREAKFAST (EXCEPT FOR EARLY MORNING DEPARTURES)

Today it’s time to say goodbye to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Or rather: see you next time. Because we’re sure that after this trip you’ll have fallen head over heels in love with this little heart-shaped country. And that you’re probably already planning your return journey in your head!

After the transfer to the airport, you make your way back home.
