Description
“I think food, culture, people and landscape are all absolutely inseparable.” – Anthony Bourdain
If you want to really understand the culture of Sarajevo, you need to eat its food, taste its flavours, speak to the people in the neighbourhood outside the old town.
And hardly any part of Sarajevo has more stories to tell than the old military neighbourhood Grbavica that was occupied during the siege of Sarajevo. On a walking tour through this residential area, you’ll learn about the resilience of the Sarajevans – part of the tour is a visit to the famous Grbavica stadium that was located right at the frontlines.
But above all, it’s about food, of course!
The best restaurants and local spots hide outside the old town of Sarajevo, where the locals live! We are convinced you’ve tried Baklava and Ćevapi, so this tour takes you deeper into traditional Bosnian local food and some Sarajevo Street Food:
Your tour guide will
introduce you to a special kind of pita (our famous pastry)
show you our favourite dessert eaten with Bosnian coffee
cheer to you with our most famous beverage: rakija (or Bosnian beer or wine, if you prefer that)
take you to a Bosnian canteen (called Aščinica)
stroll with you through a pijaca (market) where local people buy their veggies and fresh produce every single day.
This tour will show you that the Bosnian culture and cultural diversity is visible not only in the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian architecture but also in the food in the country. And of course you’ll meet the people preparing the food too!
Be ready for an adventure in a part of town that you’d never experience yourself, for feeling the true spirit of the Sarajevans and for trying typical Bosnian dishes that you can’t find on just any menu – and: come hungry!

Guided culinary walking tour
Multiple traditional tastings
