Day by day itinerary

Included meals: Welcome drinks

Are you ready to fall in love with Bosnia and Herzegovina? From the valley of Sarajevo to the towering Olympic mountains and the rolling Tuscany-like wine lands?

Today, you finally board your flight to Sarajevo – Bosnia’s capital city, full of alleys in which old craftsmen still work like they did hundreds of years ago and where the smell of grilled meats wafts through the cobblestoned streets.

After checking into your accommodation, we’ll give you a moment to rest and freshen up before we all meet up for welcome drinks in the evening, setting the tone for the week ahead.

Included meals: Breakfast, Food Tasting

You meet in the morning to explore Sarajevo – see it, feel it, hear it, and taste it on this gourmet walking tour with Numa and Kathi. In three to four hours you will:

  • Learn about the four religions that have been calling this city home for centuries
  • Learn why Sarajevo is also called “the meeting point of cultures”
  • Savour a special type of Baklava that you will not find anyhwere outside Bosnia or even Sarajevo
  • Stroll through the Ottoman old town with its bazar, inns and mosques
  • Wander through the Austro-Hungarian part of town with its beautifully decorated buildings and churches
  • Visit the place where history was made and WWI started
  • Meet a 4th generation coppersmith who keeps this old Sarajevo craft alive
  • Learn how to drink Bosnian coffee and why the coffee culture is the backbone of our society
  • Taste locally-made cheeses and cured meats at the local market place

In the evening, we would recommend you enjoy the sunset over the city from the Yellow Fortress, and we will equip you with a list of restaurants and bars to end the night in.

INCLUDED MEALS: BREAKFAST, LUNCH

Today, we lace up our hiking boots! An around 16 kilometre long hike awaits us: The 2.5 hour long tour (one way!) takes us along a panoramic path right next to the second-deepest canyon of Europe. Be prepared for a bit of up and down and an ever-changing vegetation – from meadows to woods to rocky highlands.

Our final destination is the village of Lukomir – one of the remotest villages in Bosnia and Herzegovina and a haven of peace in our fast-paced world. The clocks tick slower here and you won’t be able to help it but feel relaxed and slowed down.

Before our hike back, we’ll eat some locally-made pita for luch, enjoy domestic juices from rose and elderflower and maybe a glass of rakija. And of course we’ll shop for the famous priglavke – the warm, woolen socks the mountain ladies knit for winter.

After our hike, we’ll drive back to our Hotel on Bjelašnica where you can enjoy some free time in the spa or unwind in your room before we meet again for the next adventure tomorrow.

INCLUDED MEALS: BREAKFAST, TASTING, LUNCH

How beautiful to wake up to the peaceful sounds of the mountains! And you don’t have to say goodbye to Bjelašnica just yet – because we will spend the morning with local herbal witch Arma. Together, you will collect fruits and herbs on the mountain and prepare your own local, healthy jam. You will be amazed how many things nature can actually provice for us, and how easy it is to find the way back to our roots and live with the seasons and elements!

After our jam-making class and a farm-to-table lunch, we continue our drive through the beautiful mountain landscape and through the canyon of the turquoise Neretva towards Mostar. Here, you can enjoy some free time, stroll through the old town and soak in the Mediterranean vibe.

INCLUDED MEALS: BREAKFAST, WINE TASTINGS, DINNER

We are off chasing waterfalls & wine glasses today! After breakfast, we head for a morning swim to the most beautiful waterfall of the Herzegovina region: Kravica waterfalls. And because swimming makes you hungry and thirsty we have prepared a lunch stop at a local boutique winery where they don’t only serve delicious local cheese and ham but also the only Bosnian brut made from local grapes!

The afternoon is reserved for some of the most beautiful sights of the Herzegovina region:

  • Climb up to the viewpoint over the stunning Ottoman village Počitelj
  • Marvel at the beauty of nature at Bunski Kanal
  • Visit Herzegovina’s most photographed sight: the dervish monastery in Blagaj

And in the evening, a special treat awaits: We will visit a 4th generation boutique winery where we enjoy a barbecue dinner there and make our own wine, bottle it, cork it, and put our names on the label to take home as the perfect souvenir!

INCLUDED MEALS: BREAKFAST, LUNCH IF YOU GO RAFTING

Time to say goodbye to Herzegovina – but an adrenalin kick will drive the sadness away in a heartbeat! Together we raft down Neretva, the coldest river in the whole world. We’ll enjoy untouched nature that you can only reach by boat, barbecue by the riverside at a hidden beach and paddle together against the current!

Not into rafting? You can visit Tito’s Bunker instead, or enjoy a lazy morning and early afternoon in the city of Konjic!

You can spend the evening at your leisure in Sarajevo, buy some souvenirs or just soak up the atmosphere of this special city one more night.

INCLUDED MEALS: BREAKFAST, dinner

You end your trip with a different view of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina: From the impressive Austro-Hungarian buildings of the city, we walk through the mahalas, the old Ottoman neighbourhoods and up to great viewpoints over Sarajevo. And you can get a glimpse of how people live here today.

In the evening, you’ll celebrate your trip with your fellow travelers at tonight’s farewell dinner – a traditional sač, barbecue under the bell in our own garden! Because after all, you came her as foreigners but we are very much sure that you’ll leave as friends!

INCLUDED MEAL: BREAKFAST (EXCLUDING EARLY MORNING DEPARTURES)
