THE ROUTE IN DETAIL

Day 1

You will travel to the Drina valley upon arrival. It is located in the wild east of Bosnia and Herzegovina, close to Tara National Park where Tara and Drina meet, and features green pine forests, deep canyons, and high mountain peaks that are snow-capped even in summer. After you arrive, you can go for a walk along the riverbank, and in the evening we all meet for dinner – all dishes are locally sourced, and the ingredients are organically grown. You will soak up the atmosphere of the canyon with other travellers around the campfire.

Day 2

In the morning, a hearty Bosnian breakfast awaits you – and you’ll need it, because you’re already on the river at 10 a.m.! Our certified skippers will accompany you, provide you with all necessary safety instructions, and then the fun can begin: 25 kilometres of breathtaking nature, wild waterfalls, bubbling springs, and plenty of time and opportunity to dive into the cool water yourself. Lunch is included in the price, and you can fuel up with veal, homemade pita, fresh salad, and homemade bread before rafting the final few kilometres to Foča. You will spend the evening in a new accommodation in Sutjeska National Park. You’ll spend an evening around the campfire under the endless starry sky in the wake of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s highest mountain, on the border with Montenegro.

Day 3

The next day is yours to relax in the cabin, go for a walk through the forest, or visit Tjentište, the Valley of Heroes, with its impressive monument. You have a choice! We want to give you enough time to enjoy the atmosphere of the national park.

Day 4

Today you will explore two of the most beautiful places of Sutjeska National Park with your guide! Your destination is lake Trnovačko. Located at 1.517 meters above sea level, with crystal clear waters and surrounded by some of the highest peaks of BiH, it is a stunning place to explore. From there, you also have a perfect view of Maglić, BiH’s highest mountain.

The hike to the lake takes about 1.5 hours at a light pace and is suitable for both professional hikers and beginners. At the lake, you’ll have a 3 to 4 hour break to really soak in all the nature, enjoy a home made lunch and just enjoy your ćejf moment!

In the evening, a dinner with your hiking group awaits you at your accommodation where you can relax by the pool or campfire. The perfect end to a beautiful day!

Day 5

On the fifth day, your hiking guide will pick you up and take you to one of Europe’s last primaeval forests, the Prašuma Perućica. Your certified guide will lead you on permitted paths through this strictly protected nature reserve, which is thought to be around 20,000 years old and home to 50-meter-tall, 300-year-old trees. The highlight of the day will be the visit of the breathtaking Skakavac waterfall. The tour will take 6 to 8 hours, lunch is included. You need moderate fitness for this hike, but it’s definitely doable even when you are not a professional hiker.

After that it’s time to bid farewell to Sutjeska and drive back to the capital, Sarajevo where you will spend your last day.

Day 6

On your sixth and final day, you will go on a guided tour of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s capital. You will learn how land and people have been connected to nature and mountains for centuries, visit the city’s vibrant cultural scene, and enjoy dinner with a final view of the mountainous landscape. Of course, tasting rakija is part of the evening too. Cheers to a happy holiday!

Day 7

On the seventh day, you depart – there is still time in the morning for a short stroll through the city. Then you head to the airport, carrying many unforgettable memories with you.
