GRBAVICA FOOD TOUR

Hardly any other district in Sarajevo has such a turbulent history as Grbavica. The predominantly military neighbourhood was occupied during the Bosnian War – a siege within a siege, so to speak – and was left in ruins at the end of the war. Slowly, the inhabitants of Grbavica rebuilt their neighbourhood – and today it is a lively, sought-after district with numerous restaurants, cafés and parks.

Tourists don’t stray here very often, but Grbavica’s delicious delicacies and socialist-brutalist architecture are waiting to be discovered, and a walk through this part of the city gives an insight into how people live today.

On this culinary journey, you’ll learn a lot about the siege of the city, but also about the will of the people to revive their Sarajevo. You will taste local Bosnian specialities and have the opportunity to get to know the people of this city up close!

Grbavica food tour is something really unconventional and a great way to see the real Sarajevo. During this tour, you will step out of the busy streets of the Old Town or Ferhadija, and walk through landmarks which we all might have seen on the pictures during the siege but never knew what it looks like after the city was rebuilt.
It’s a pleasant, unhurried stroll between the pretty quiet streets and buildings that arose at times of Yugoslavia, with several stops at where locals hang out and tourists barely reach to. Spiced up by engaging conversation and interesting facts, this tour is a what you need to look at the city in a new perspective. It personally made me establish a deeper connection with Sarajevo.

What a fantastic experience! Numa showed us parts of the city that tourists surely don’t visit. We tried some excellent home-cooked food, learned a lot about recent history, and visited the local football club stadium that had so much history to tell, had some great burek, Bosnian craft beer and some dessert that I’ve never seen before. It was some cooked apple with walnut cream inside and whipped cream on top! Amazing! I would definitely recommend this tour!
